Hot Dividend Stocks To Invest In 2014

I love the combination of low debt with low payout ratios. The debt situation is one of the most important issues in corporate finance. It also expresses the ability to grow sales and earnings by enlarging the balance sheet with bank loans.

Only a low leveraged corporation has potential to boost sales without taking new investors into the boat that dilute the current earnings per share.

Today I would like to start an article series about low leveraged stocks from several sectors with currently small dividend payouts. I believe it good to see what companies have the biggest potential to give shareholders huge amounts of money back in the near future and believe me, the tech sector is not the only place to be.

My criteria are a low dividend payout ratio of less than 20 percent as well as a debt-to-equity ratio under 0.5. Only twelve stocks fulfilled these very tight defined criteria.

One result is a high-yield, and nine stocks are recommended to buy or better. Most of the results come from the medical appliances and supplies or equipment industry.

Big competitors for BCE include Rogers Communications (RCI) and Telus (TU), though it also faces niche players such as Public Mobile, Wind Mobile and Mobilicity. Until recently, there was buzz that Verizon (VZ) might enter the market by buying up the latter two, though VZ apparently scrapped plans for Canadian expansion until 2014.

The company has a current ratio of 13.45% which is higher than the one registered by Liberty Interactive Corp (LINTA). But for investors looking for a higher ROE, Time Warner Cable, DISH Network Corp (DISH), Rogers Communications, Inc. (RCI), Shaw Communications, Inc. (SJR) and Tivo, Inc. (TIVO) could be better options.

The big news for Madison Square Garden has been the success of its key sports franchises. The New York Knicks basketball team made the playoffs and earned the No. 2 seed in the Eastern Conference. Even more importantly, the long-delayed National Hockey League season finally got going in January, helping resurrect what many had feared would be a lost season, sending shares of MSG, as well as Canadian venue/team-owners Rogers Communications (NYSE: RCI  ) and BCE (NYSE: BCE  ) , higher. As it turned out, MSG's New York Rangers made the playoffs and will go up against the Washington Capitals in the first round. Playoffs are an especially lucrative time for sports viewership, and usually translate into extra profits for the company's broadcast businesses.

Moreover, thanks to Northrop Grumman's (NYSE: NOC  ) Global Hawk, Boeing's Ground-Based Interceptors, Raytheon's (NYSE: RTN  ) SM-3 defense system, and Lockheed's Aegis Missile Defense System, America's powerhouse of missile technology would be pitted against a nation that's still learning how to fire a rocket -- think of it as a Chihuahua trying to fight a German shepherd: One bite, and the Chihuahua's a goner.

This year is turning out to be a big one for American arms exports -- and for Raytheon (NYSE: RTN  ) .

You couldn't tell it from the stock price, which has shrunk 2% over the past 30 days. But the past month has actually been pretty good for Raytheon's arms sales. Just running down a quick tally of recent contracts the Pentagon has reported publicly...

Advisors' Opinion:

M&T Bank (NYSE: MTB  ) will take a little longer to absorb fellow lender Hudson City Bancorp (NASDAQ: HCBK  ) . The companies said in a joint press release that they believe more time will be needed to address regulatory issues in order to effect the planned acquisition, first announced in Aug. 2012.

  • [By Amanda Alix]

It was a long engagement, but the union between growth-oriented M&T Bank (NYSE: MTB  ) and Hudson City Bancorp (NASDAQ: HCBK  ) looks like it is definitely back on track.

  • [By Jon C. Ogg]

The M&T Bank Corp. (NYSE: MTB) and Hudson City Bancorp Inc. (NASDAQ: HCBK) transaction is the only pending deal of 2012 vintage due to various regulatory concerns. MTB currently has 9% short interest outstanding and PACW 15%. Another merger covered is the deal between Provident New York Bancorp (NASDAQ: PBNY) and Sterling Bancorp (NYSE: STL), and the balance are simply too small for us to warrant effort.

M&T Bank Corp.(MTB) and Hudson City Bancorp Inc.(HCBK) said they expect additional delays in completing their merger deal, and any action isn’t expected to occur until the latter half of 2014. “While all parties are disappointed that the transaction is delayed further, we are gratified that M&T continues to see the value in the Hudson City franchise,” said Hudson City CEO Ronald E. Hermance Jr.
